I found this yarn on the clearance rack at the local yarn store. This pattern was very quick to knit and it’s super soft and cuddly!!
Now that my little Isabelle is here I wanted to post a few pictures of her in the sweater. She is a wiggly little worm so it’s hard to get a good shot. she is 7 weeks in these pictures and 8+ lbs.
Size Newborn
Materials:
Bernat Bamboo Natural Blends (3 skeins) in Ginger
Size 10 needles (straight)
Gauge: 4 stitches per inch
Back
Co 34 stitches garter stitch 4 rows. Switch to stockinette stitch for 5 inches.
Sleeves
At each edge, cast on 4 stitches twice, then 3 stitches four times. There will be a total of 20 stitches casted on at each sleeve edge.
Knit first 2 and last 2 stitches of each row (the middle will be Stockinette stitch), until sleeve measures 2 1/2 inches ending with a WS row.
Neck edge
On next row knit 30 stitches BO 14 stitches knit remaining 30 stitches
Continue, working each side separately
Increase 1 stitch every other row. ( For a total of 10 stitches) When sleeve measures 5 inches decrease in following manner:
BO 3 stitches four times, than 4 stitches twice while AT SAME TIME continuing to increase neck edge.
Left Front Edge
There will be 20 stitches on front edge . On all rows, knit first 3 stitches of neck edge. Continue in stockinette stitch until front measures 4 inches. Switch to garter stitch til front is the same measurement as back than bind off.
Right front edge (buttonholes)
Knit the same as for left front. To make button holes, on right side row, Knit 1 stitch, bo 2 stitches, on next row knit to garter stitch band co 2 stitches.
You can space the button holes according to size and how many buttons you would like on your kimono.
If you are making the kimono for a boy simply reverse button hole sides.
If you are unsure of the babies gender Elizabeth Zimmerman suggests making button holes on both sides and when your little one arrives simply put the buttons over the hole you wish to cover up.

Thanks so much!! It’s really quick too. Babies that age grow so fast, it’s nice to get it done before they outgrow it:)
